Data Assimilation is concerned with the reconstruction of the state of a dynamical system from measured data. This is a key ingredient for important applications, for example for Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) or predictions of Climate Change. With the German Symposium on Data Assimilation we aim to make a visible contribution to the further development of the field and nurture a vivid research environment within Germany and beyond involving several important universities, operational centers and research institutes. In a framework which consists of keynote lectures by selected international experts in the field, invited talks and an extended poster session (please register!) we aim to have time for mutual exchange and discussions in a relaxed and stimulating environment at the Conference Area Blue of the headquarters of Deutscher Wetterdienst, Offenbach.

Keynote Lectures and Invited Speakers:

  • Prof. Eugenia Kalnay (University of Maryland, USA),
  • Dr. Mark Bühner (Canadian Meteorological Center, Canada),
  • Prof. Peter Jan van Leuwen (University of Reading, UK)
  • Prof. Andreas Hense (University of Bonn, Germany),
  • Dr. Ulrich Löhnert (University of Cologne, Germany),
  • Dr. Christoph Schraff (DWD Offenbach, Germany)

Scientific Coordination:

  • Dr. Andreas Rhodin (DWD),
  • Prof. Roland Potthast (DWD/ UniReading)

Local Management:

  • Annegret Biermann (DWD),
  • Yvonne Schmidt-Reiter (DWD)

Scientific Advisory Committee:

  • Prof. Angelika Bunse-Gerstner, University of Bremen
  • Prof. George Craig, Institute für Meteorologie, LMU München
  • Dr. Tijana Janjic-Pfander, Alfred-Wegner Institute, Bremerhaven
  • Prof. Roland Potthast, DWD/University of Reading/University of Göttingen
